I had a child in August 2015 he died February 2016. I wanted to know if I am able to still file my son on my taxes for 2016?

Yes you can claim him as a dependent on your 2016 tax return.  A dependent that passes away during the year is considered living in your home for the entire year.  When entering him as a dependent there will be a box that asks if they passed away during the year.  Check that box and then enter the date they passed away.
