I had a child but am not married and my child's mother will be claiming the child. Am I correct in not claiming my new child on my tax return

If you and the child's mother don't live together, the right to claim the child goes to the custodial parent.  The custodial parent is the parent with whom the child spent the greater number of nights in 2016.
