I had a 2021 mid-year one-time gain on a business investment I was involved in. Can I make a one-time estimated tax payment to the government on this prior to year end?

Yes, good idea.   Send in a 3rd quarter estimate.

Here are the blank Estimates and instructions…..

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es.pdf

The 1040ES quarterly estimates are due April 15,  June 15, Sept 15 and Jan 18, 2022.  Your state will also have their own estimate forms.

Or you can pay directly on the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/payments

Be sure to pick the right kind of payment and year.....2021 Estimate

Will there be a place to account for the payment being made during the year when I begin the filing process next year through turbo tax. For example if I pay $10,000 now how will that be accounted for or shown when I start the process. Obviously the W-2’s get input and show taxes paid but this is separate. Just don’t want it to get lost in the shuffle.
