Assuming you want to file married filing jointly, you can use either one of your previous accounts to file the joint return. You can't combine the information from two previous accounts so you should probably pick the account from which the most complicated tax return was filed and transfer from that account. If you don't really care about transferring from a previous year, you can create a totally new account for your joint return.
He can use the same account he had last year, his 2021 information will transfer to the 2022 return. Then he can change his filing status to Married Filing Joint. He would just add your information to the same return.
