I got an email from the state of Virginia that my state return was accepted, but I did not get an email stating that my federal return was accepted. Please advise.

Check your e-file status for the your federal. If it shows pending, this is normal. It can stay in pending for up to 72 hours and sometimes even longer until the IRS accepts the return. You will receive an email for your federal once the IRS accepts it.
