I got a message " Way to go, myname! You filed your 2017 taxes.". All I had been trying to do was print. I DID NOT hit any button that said "File". What happened?

You are correct.  Nothing has been filed since you selected to print your tax return.  The web page is misleading you to think the tax return has been filed when it has not.

If this is what you see then you didn't file anything unless you printed, signed & mailed them in....
