I got a letter from the CA Tax Board asking me to submit my 1099. I am not a contractor or a freelance worker, my employer provided a W2. Is this requirement even legit?

I am working overseas and CA is my home state, so taxes are still being collected eventhough I have not lived in the state for years.  Why would they ask for a 1099?

I recommend contacting them directly for more clarification.  The letter should have more details as to what they are looking for.

You can also use the link below to contact them.

How to contact the Franchise Tax Board

It's hard to determine if they are asking you to submit Form 1099 for any income that was reported on your tax return, or if you were supposed to submit a 1099 Form if you paid somebody else.

If you can provide more clarification, please comment and we will assist you.
