I give up. i can't even fill in 1099DIV data without have to try to answer questions i don't know the answers to. i guess turbotax isn't the panacea you claim.

The follow up "question" in TurboTax (TT) after entering the 1099-Div, is "tell us if any of these UNCOMMON situations apply to you"

Rule of Thumb: if you don't know that they DO apply; then they don't.

If you have a tax exempt mutual fund; and you don't know what state(s) the interest/dividends are from, you answer "More than one state".
