I filled for 2021 Taxes, after I completed the filing process, It said my return / taxes are ready to mail. I still havent got my 2021 Tax return. What is going on

I filed my 2021 Taxes in March of 2022. It is now December 2022 and I still haven't got my tax return. I try to check on the status of my return on the IRS website and it cant find my return. Is there something I didnt do right? I don't know how to go back to 2021 Taxes to add or change it. Turbo tax is stuck in making me file for my 2022 taxes. I dont know what to do.

A TurboTax status showing "Ready to mail" means TurboTax thinks you were going to print out and mail a paper return.   Is that what you chose for your filing method back in March 2022; i.e., instead of efiling, did you choose to print and mail your return?   If so, did you physically print it out and mail it to the IRS in postal mail?   TurboTax does not mail it for you.

Oh no.   If your account says "ready to mail" and you did not print that return, sign it and put it in an envelope yourself, the return was not mailed.   TurboTax does not mail it for you.  A mailed tax return has to have YOUR signature in ink next to the words "Sign here" at the bottom of page 2 on the Form 1040.   TurboTax cannot sign your name to a tax return.   You have to use a pen, sign and date it yourself and mail it.  If it is a joint return then it has to be signed by both spouses.

It is too late to e-file it now, so you need to print, sign and mail it.  Expect it to take at least six months to be processed.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

How do go back to finishing my 2021 taxes? Because I login to Turbo Tax now and it asks me questions about 2022. I think it is setting me up to file 2022 taxes?

 You cannot use online for a 2021 return now.  Online can only be used for a 2022 return.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2019 and 2020 and 2021 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

 If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

@danielkondratyuk Oh and if you already had a 2021 return that you started using online TurboTax you have to switch to the CD/download.

You will be able to access the return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.

Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2021 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device).Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
