I filed my taxes as head of household, instead of married jointly. and I had to refiled my 2015 and 2016 taxes. what will be the out come of that?

My tax preparer had filed my taxes as head of household for the years of 2015 and 2016. I had to make an amendment on both of them. So I had to refiled them and put married jointly, for my status.  I want to know what kind of outcome it's going to be, once the irs gets it. Am in going to be fined?

Why didn't your tax preparer correct these at his/her own expense?

Is this related to your other question re overdue student loans? Did your spouse claim Injured Spouse?

Why she did it? I don't know? She put me as single knowing I am married. When I filed for my daughter's fasfa, I put him on it and filed married. That's when the questions, of my filing status of my taxes came up. It has put an hold on my daughter's fasfa payments, until I get this resolved.  She just started her tax company and I guess she thought she did it tight. I guess. Now this WHOLE SITUATION is stopping my daughter going foward with her education. I did the adjustment and did a amendment for both years, on top of paying to get all of this done over and stressed out about this.  I just wanna know the out come. So bummed.

I don't have over due student loan and my husband did not claimed to be injured.  I know nothing about that question.

"She just started her tax company and I guess she thought she did it tight." Please bring this error to her attention. Is she a CPA?

What is cpa? But what will happen on my situation tho? Yeah she knows now, she was the one who made and filed the amendments. So what will happen to the fixed taxes? Will I be fined?

CPA = Certified Public Accountant

But this is a forum for Turbotax users  You need to talk to your tax preparer or the IRS, rather than a bunch of strangers on the internet. If she signed the returns, she may liable for any fines.

Your tax preparer should have provided you with copies of your amended tax returns. If she has not done so, demand that she provide them to you.  It can take 3-4 months for the IRS to process an amended tax return.  It sounds like you do not even know if the amended returns are getting you any additional refund(s).  She should not have charged you any additional fee to correct the mistakes she made.  You should have all of the necessary information from her so that you can check the status of those amended returns on the IRS site:

Single is not the same as Head of Household, nor the same as Married Filing Separately.

That being said, Married Filing Joint can go either way, depending upon how much income your spouse had. Did your amended returns end up with you owing taxes? If so, you can be assessed interest and possibly penalties. Did you use TT to amend?

But, as indicated above, someone with your screen name asked about student loans,. so please clarify.

And TT is not licensed for use by paid tax preparers, so your preparer was in violation if she used TT.

I haven't received anything yet. And he doesn't have a job. I am the primary source of income in my house. Everything is in my name bills, apartment,everything. I pay for everything.  I don't know what she used to filed taxes with.

Basically if you were getting more refunds on the amended returns then there is nothing bad coming your way.  However, if you owed taxes then the IRS will probably bill you for a penalty & a bit of interest so expect the bill.
