Your post was cut off in mid-sentence. What is the rest of your question?
I filed 2019 taxes and was rejected due to when I claimed my daughter it said I can’t file a duplicate SSN..we’ll come to find out my girlfriend filed a non filers form to get the stimulus money and put her down on her form. She said she didn’t receive the money for our daughter but I am not able to claim my kid because of this. I stand to lose a bucket of money if I can’t claim my kid. My girlfriend doesn’t work and thought it wouldn’t affect my taxes if she claimed her for the stimulus money. What do I do to be able to claim my kid on my taxes and get the money I can for her on stimulus. Also I can’t get stimulus until I file my 2019 taxes. I’m clueless what to do....
Your GF messed up. You are correct--you will not be able to e-file now, because she claimed the child on her non-filer form; that is what is causing your own return to be rejected.
You can still claim your child and file as Head of Household, but you will not be able to e-file. You will have to print, sign and mail your own return. Expect a wait for your refund--mailed returns are taking a LOT longer than normal now. They have been piling up in trailers and the IRS is just recently beginning to work their way through the backlog. Sorry.....
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
my guess is that you claimed the child that she claimed. you can no longer e-file due to duplicate claimants for the same child. eventually, The IRS will send each of you a request to amend. she needs to change her return to a filing status of single and not claim the child. It seems that based on the little info provided, you can claim both your GF and the child as dependents. Your filing status would be head of household.
you can claim the GF as a dependent if the qualifying relative tests are met. even though the "relative" is used, in fact, you can anyone that meets all these tests:
1) their gross income for 2019 less than $4,200
2) you provided over ½ their support
3) they aren't a qualifying child of another taxpayer
4) they lived in your household for the entire year or meet a relationship test
the stimulus payment you would get is $1200 for you and maybe $500 for the child. (not sure what effect your GF claiming the child will have on you getting the stimulus for it)
your GF should have gotten the $1200 for herself and $500 for the child she claimed.
