Form 1099-R also includes a Federal ID number (or EIN), just like a W-2.
Take a closer look at your Form 1099-R and make sure the Federal ID number matches the data entering into TurboTax. On the TurboTax entry screen, the Federal ID number is entered just below the address of the payer, before you start entering the numbers shown in the boxes.
I am using TurboTax on a desktop computer. I have three 1099-R documents. None of them have an EIN. Two of them have a TIN and one has a "federal identification number." My e-Filing was rejected because I did not provide a correct EIN. All the identification numbers I provided, in the field asking for an EIN, were entered correctly. How do I correct this problem?
EIN, TIN, or federal id no. these all mean the same thing. You have to enter them to successfully e-file your tax return. If you have entered the numbers, double-check to make sure they are entered correctly.
