I filed an extension and am expected to pay my taxes on the original. I filed the extension because I don’t have enough money to pay. What is really happening for me?

It is an extension to file only, not to pay the taxes due, as they are to paid by April 15th even with an extension.

#1 I would file on time

#2 pay what you can by 4-15-2019 to reduce penalties and interest

#3 then work out a payment agreement with IRS if you can't pay it all, however if you get the money anywhere else you are generally better off due to the penalties and fees the IRS charges.

Here is a link to IRS for a payment agreement if needed.
