You can only file ONE extension ... any duplicates will be ignored.

I see ok, I filed on the TT website before the dead line, I was using the TT software to finish my taxes and couldn't figure out how to pull in the amount I paid back in April. So I clicked file an extension in the software and reentered the amount.

Was that the correct way or was there another way to pull in the amount paid at extension time.

Thanks for your help

That sounds like it was ok.  Extension payments go here.  Did it get added to your return?

To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension)  go to

Federal Taxes (or Personal for desktop H&B version)

Deductions and Credits

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button

Next page second section Payments with Extension

Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid

Yes, it worked that way.

It created another 4868 for me to print, (but only one in the file) so that's why I was concerned.

Ignore the duplicate form ... you don't need it and it can no longer be fileed.
