I file as an independent and my parents claim me. Is it true that my parents must submit their taxes before i submit mine?

I'm a college student with enough income to be required to file, but still rely on my parents enough for them to claim me as a dependent as well.  My parents are convinced that the world will end if I submit my tax return before they do. Is this true? Are there any rules about who files first?

As long as you do not claim an exemption for yourself (see below), there are no problems with you filing your return before your parents file theirs.

When entering your information, you will need to indicate that someone else can claim you as a dependent and that that person is claiming you - see screenshot below.
