I understand. You filed your 2020 return in January 2022 so it got filed on 2021 forms. That became your 2021 return. You need to AMEND that return to be for your real 2021 return. That may be tricky to do. You have to take out all the 2020 info and add in the 2021 info. Then you still need to file an original 2020 return.
How to amend
Then you still need to file an original 2020 return. To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products
You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.
To complete and file a 2021 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2021 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
A 2021 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
Let me try this again with the entire statement since the way the system made me post the question was so disjointed as to not make the question intelligible. The entire question with context"
I failed to file my tax return for tax year 2020, when it was due in July of 2021. I did not file that particular tax return on TurboTax until January 2022. In February of 2022 when I attempted to file my tax return for tax year 2021, I discovered that when I filed my late tax year 2020 return in January 2022, I had mistakenly listed it as the tax year 2021 return. TurboTax told me that I had already filed a tax return and I was unable to complete the process.
I am now attempting to file my tax year 2021 return and to clear up the mistake I made in January 2022 so that when my tax return is due in April 2023 I will be current. How do I correct the mistake I made in January 2022, and then, although it is now late, file my tax year 2021 return and therefore be current when it is time to file my tax year 2022 return? In other words, how can I correct the mistake that I made, get my late tax return filed and bring myself current, and then file my tax return this year on time?
If I am reading your situation correctly -
If you filed the 2021 tax return with tax data from 2020 then that tax return was incorrect. You must file an amended 2020 return to correct the error.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
I do not see anywhere in your post where a 2021 tax return was ever filed -
Since the 2021 tax return was never filed you now must file a 2021 tax return using the TurboTax desktop editions.
The 2022 tax return can be filed using either the online editions or the desktop editions. In either case when asked to provide a 2021 AGI enter a zero (0) since the 2021 tax return was not filed.

Thank you! That was exactly what I needed!
