I earned pay for my maternity leave because I live in Belgium and this is paid here by the government. Where do I enter this information on my tax return?

I am a US citizen working and living in Belgium.  I was on maternity leave for 3 months in 2018, and this is paid.  In addition, my insurance in Belgium offers a $2000 benefit when you have a child.  How do I report these on my tax return?

I would report them under miscellaneous income.

To enter the income:

  1. Click on Federal on the left hand side of the screen in the black area
  2. Click on Wages & Income at the top of your screen
  3. Scroll down (  you may need to click on All Income) to Less Common Income
  4. Click on Show More
  5. Scroll down to Miscellaneous Income
  6. Click on Start
  7. Scroll down to Other reportable income and click Start
  8. Enter a description and income amount
You may want instead to add it to your foreign wages (as it is similar to foreign source wage income) for foreign tax credit purposes.
