I don't have misc, taxable income (or loss), but the program keeps telling me I do and preventing me from filing, unless I upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe.

Suggest you switch to Forms view (View > Forms). Then in the upper-left corner, check for errors in your return. If this doesn't solve your problem, it sounds like you have a fairly simple return. If so, it would be cheaper to download the appropriate forms, fill them out on paper, and snail-mail them to the IRS.
