I do not claim my child on taxes, however I do pay for after school care and claimed that. My taxes then got rejected, Anyone else experience this?

If you are the custodial parent but let the non custodial parent claim the child as a dependent then you can still claim the HOH filing status, the day care credit form 2441 & the EITC.

What was the exact error message and/or code ?

Are you the custodial parent?  Only that parent can claim child care credit no matter who actually paid the expenses.
