for the 3rd stimulus, the taxpayer would receive $1400 for themselves and $1400 for you as their dependent.
No, the rules did not change that way.
If you were a dependent on someone's 2019 tax year return and in 2020 you can file as a non-dependent, you may be eligible for the second stimulus payment; HOWEVER, you can't be a non-dependent with 0 income unless you are retired or in some other situation where you support yourself without actual income.
I was claimed as a dependant in 2019 & 2020. I was denied the 1st & 2nd stimulus checks due to child support. Its my understanding that they've changed the rules on the 2nd & 3rd stimulus payments. Being I didnt receive the 2nd payment and now that I'm now eligible to receive it, how do I go about doing that? I read that being I am claimed as a dependant that the person claiming me will receive my 3rd stimulus now that the rule changed. But how do I/we get my 2nd stimulus being the person whom claims me as a dependant has already filed their 2020 taxes?
first, only taxpayers get the stimulus. Those that are dependents are not taxpayers.
for the 1st two payments, since you were a dependent of a taxpayer, the taxpayer did not and will not receive stimulus for you. And you are not eligible to receive stimulus because you were a dependent of someone else.
for the 3rd payment, since you were a dependent of a taxpayer that tax payer will receive $1400.. You will not receive anything because you are a dependent.
I do not see that child support plays into this at all.
What I meant was I did not receive the 1st & 2nd stimulus check because I owed back child support.
So does the taxpayer receive 2800? $1400 for them as an individual and another $1400 due to their dependant?
if you were a dependent on someone else's taxes, it doesn't matter whether or not you were required to pay back child support.
again, dependents NEVER receive stimulus money - only the tax payer that claimed them can receive the money. For the 1st two stimulus payments, taxpayers did not receive stimulus for their dependents over the age of 16. for the 3rd stimulus payment, the taxpayer will receive $1400 per dependent.
you state you were a dependent on someone else's tax return, therefore, you do not receive stimulus.
for the 3rd stimulus, the taxpayer would receive $1400 for themselves and $1400 for you as their dependent.
