The TurboTax online editions are all free to start. You only need to pay the TurboTax account fees when you e-file or print the tax return.

You do not have to pay yet. Your data is autosaved. When you are ready to file---which you cannot even do yet-you can choose to pay upfront with a credit/debit card or have the fees deducted from your federal refund (which will cost an extra fee of $39.99)
