I didn't claim my son but his social and info is on my taxes so now he can't be claimed by someone else. how do I fix this?

I selected don't claim child tax credit so that my parents who help me raise him could. I've filed and not collected for him but it's telling them they can't because his social appears in my return. can I amend this?

Yes you can amend this return but IRS is not accepting amended returns until later in February.  Also, you must make sure that your return is fully processed through IRS system, meaning you get your refund before you amend.

This will be a long process.  Your parents should not e-file but claim him on their return and print and mail the return after you have amended.  Here is how to amend your return using TurboTax.

To start your amended return, go back into TurboTax, open the return that you already sent in, and on the first page you see, click on the link to amend your return. Before you amend: amend only if you need to make a change on a return you have already filed.

And tell your parents that they will have to mail their return this year to claim him.  Even if you amend it won't release your son's ssn from the IRS database.  So they don't have to wait for you to amend.

Review your return carefully to be sure you didn't claim something on him*.  The TT interview is designed for divorced parents when the mom lets the dad claim the child.  The mom can still claim some things.  Those special rules don't apply when the mom is letting the grandparent claim the child.  You can not claim anything. It's best to not enter the child at all.  You may still have to amend.
