I did not receive unemployment benefits this year. When selecting "no", TurboTax forces me to upgrade to a paid version or I can't continue. Does anyone know why?

I did not receive any unemployment benefits or paid family leave in 2021. When selecting "no" to both of these options, a screen pops up and states I need to upgrade to a paid version of TurboTax as the free version does not do unemployment benefits. However, I did not receive unemployment benefits and I am selecting no. Later in the process it requests information from a 1099-G, but I did not receive one of these as I did not receive unemployment benefits. Has this error occurred elsewhere or is there a way to fix this?

If a Form 1099-G was transferred from the 2020 tax return -

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen

Click on Tools

Click on Delete a form

Delete Form 1099-G

Also, is it asking about a 1099-G for your state tax refund last year? The 1099-G is used for both state tax refunds and unemployment, but TurboTax handles those two uses differently. (Generally, if you didn't itemize for 2020 your state tax refund is NOT taxable.)

If you had Unemployment in 2020, it may have carried over to 2021 with a $0 balance, asking you to review the entry.

You can delete the entry by typing 'unemployment' in the Search area, then click on 'Jump to unemployment'.

Say YES to 'did you receive unemployment' to get to the page where you can delete the entry

At the 1099-G Summary page, click the trash can icon to delete the entry from last year.
