NO!  There are about two dozen kinds of 1099's and you have not told us what you have--but you do not enter a 1099 of any kind as if it is a W-2.  Do you have 1099Misc for work as an independent contractor?

No, you do not report your 1099 forms in the same place as the w-2 forms. Please follow the directions below that relate to the income reported on form 1099-misc income.

Follow the directions below if you have a form 1099-misc with income reported in box 3:

  1. Log in and open your return
  2. Click the Federal tab from the left side of the screen
  3. Click the Wages & Income tab
  4. On the next page, scroll down to see all income
  5. Click Show More beside Other Common Income
  6. Click Start beside Form 1099-misc 
  7. Enter the information from your form 1099-misc. The program will ask you questions about the type of income you received.

If income was reported in box 7 of form 1099-misc, then it must be reported as self-employment income. Follow the directions below if you have a form 1099-misc with income reported in box 7:

  1. Log in and open your return
  2. Click the search field, type schedule c, and click the jump to link in the search results
  3. On the next page, Answer Yes to the question, "Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?"
  4. Once you enter information to set up your schedule c, you will be prompted to enter your income.
