I did not file my return before the cut off date. Can I still submit my return and get what is owed or is it a loss on my part?

you're entitled to your 2021 refund if you file any time within 3 years of the original due date. don't wait. taxpayers that do sometimes forget and then it's lost.

...the BUT...

...but when using the software to file, you won't be able to e-file the 2021 tax return after 15 or 16 of October 2022.

_____________

You can still paper-mail file after that date, but if the tax return isn't fully filled out (&paid for) in the online software by ~ that date, you would have to buy/download/install the desktop software to complete it and print/mail-file the 2021 tax return if completed later.

@michaeljonesmj-m - FILE FILE FILE!!

if you are due a refund, there is no penalty for filing late! (the IRS would just assume keep your money 😀!!)  And as others stated, you have until APril 15, 2025 to claim the refund, but why wait?

if you OWE money, then there are penalties and interest for late filing and late paying... and the clock doesn't stop until, wait for it, you die!
