TurboTax does not give refunds when you use online software --even if the e-file is rejected. You can attempt to fix the return and re-file or you can file it by mail. Your fee was not for e-filing; it was for using the software to prepare the return. The fee is the same whether you e-file or mail it in an envelope.
You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead. What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2021 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2021 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
First of all, each online account can only file one tax return for one person. If you used your online account that you had already used in 2023 for your own return, then you didn’t file anything, and all you did was to erase your information and replace it with your mother‘s.
if you did not file your own return yet, and you tried to file your mothers return with your account, then TurboTax automatically brought over your AGI or PIN number from last year as part of the transfer of automatic transfer process. that may explain why the tax return was rejected, because your AGI or pin doesn’t match your mothers tax information. You can try and replace the filing pin, and try again.
Then, TurboTax can never guarantee that an E filed tax return will be accepted because that is outside of TurboTax’s control. TurboTax can’t know that you might enter incompatible information, or that the IRS might reject you for some unknown reason. You paid for preparation, and you received a prepared tax return. If you can’t e-file, you can print the return and file it by mail.
Then, lastly, because you have the ability to print a return and file it by mail, TurboTax’s official policy is to not give refunds with the online product. A taxpayer could print their return and mail it, and then request a refund, and then they would get a prepared and completed return for no charge. You can call customer service and maybe they will make an exception. The volunteers and experts on this forum do not have access to your account and cannot issue refunds.
