I did a free tax estimate at a different tax place and got a way different amount then the one here. Why is that?

We cannot know. We cannot see what you entered at the other site and we cannot see what you entered here. If you entered all of the same information the results should be the same. And the same thing should be true for the actual tax preparation software. All of the "do-it"yourself" tax software like TurboTax, H R Block, etc. , have to comply with all of the current tax laws and provide all of the necessary forms. So if you enter the same data CORRECTLY and COMPLETELY into any program you should get the same results.
