I collected unemployment for missed work in 2022, but the payment was not received until 2023. Does that income get reported in 2022 or 2023 tax year?

Report in the tax year it was received.

You will get a 1099G for the tax year in which the unemployment was received.  If they did not pay you until 2023 then you will receive a 1099G next year to enter on your 2023 tax return.   But be careful about that word "received" --- did the state issue the payment before 2022 ended?  Did it just take a few days for it to post your bank account?   Better check the state site to make sure if they have a 1099G there for 2022.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION

Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.

You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state.

Some states will mail out the 1099G.  Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.

Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment

Go through the screens very carefully, making sure  to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment.
