Claiming a child does not automatically entitle you to a refund.  You need income and/or federal tax withholdings to have a claim for a refund.  There are refundable credits available to those with no taxable income, however, one has to have some ''earned income'' to qualify for those credits.

You and you daughter should probably be claimed by someone else (whoever supported the two of you) if you had no income in 2017.

If you have W-2s to enter, your refund will show up when you enter the income from your W-2s.  TurboTax will show $0 until you start to enter your W-2s.  The IRS doesn't start accepting until Jan 29, so you have plenty of time.  TurboTax will save everything you have entered so far so all you will have to do is enter your W-2s whenever you get them; you will then see your refund!
