If your name change was reported to the Social Security Administration (SSA), you must receive a new Social Security card with your new name before using it to file a tax return. An e-filed return will be rejected if the name entered on the return does not match the name on file with the SSA.
If you have not received your new Social Security card and you want to file with your new name, I recommend waiting to e-file until you receive it.
