I Changed my filing status

In 2023 I did not live with my husband, but we still filed our taxes together, because I had not changed my status for tax deduction at work. In 2024 I changed my status at work as Head of Household for me and my daughter who is a college student. She graduated in 2024. How will that impact my tax filing? He just moved back in, in Feb of this year most likely for 2025 we may file together again for 2025. Will the back and forth flag the IRS and cause a possible audit. If so, what can I do to minimize that. Should we still file together even though for 2024 we were not together?

Filing jointly is almost always the better option. >>  Married filing jointly vs filing separately.   What you put on your W-4 that you give to your employer only affects how much withholding there is on each of your paychecks.   The IRS does not know or care what you put on your W-4 so, no, changing your W-4, won't be a red flag.

See this help article to determine whether or not you can claim your daughter on your 2024 tax return.
