I can't install Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributable Package (x64) and so I can't install Turbo Tax. What do I do?

We have a new computer and when my husband set it up he may have disabled some features needed for this. I don't know what to look for. Can someone direct me?

Since you have a new computer, you probably have the latest version of C++ and TurboTax uses an older version.  However, you can have several versions of C++ on your computer at once.  When you first install TurboTax, it asks if you want to install C++ also.  If you said Yes, TurboTax should install.

You may want to disable any anti-virus software while installing TurboTax.  Here's more info on Troubleshooting TurboTax Desktop Issues.

What error message did you get when trying to install?  If you can give more details, we'll try to help.

If your computer has W11 S mode, you can't install anything without permanently disabling it

Method 1: Settings Application

  1. Open the Settings App: Click on the Start button (Windows logo) or press the Windows key on your keyboard, and then select Settings (the gear icon).

  2. Go to System: In the Settings window, click on System.

  3. About Section: Scroll down the left sidebar and select About.

  4. Check Windows Specifications: Look for the "Windows specifications" section. If your system is in S Mode, you should see a line indicating that your Windows is running in S Mode. It will usually say something like "Windows 11 Home in S mode" or "Windows 11 Pro in S mode".

if not, another option is to right click on the installer app and select "run as administrator" if that's available.
