You can still file a joint return for the year they died.  After that, you need to file as single (or possibly head of household or qualifying widower.)  However, If your spouse was the first-named taxpayer on a joint Turbotax account, you need to make an account in your own name.  It's almost impossible to remove the spouse's name from all the internal program settings and worksheets.
