I am not self employed. I was issued a 1099-Misc. for a plumbing convention I attended. This monies was for wages and partial expenses to attend.

I dont want to list that i am self employed but want to use the deductions from this trip that i paid myself

If your 1099-MISC has income designated in box #7, the IRS considers you self employed, and you will need to claim business income.

However, you can claim all expenses associated with the income.
