Unemployment compensation is reported to you on a Form 1099-G by your state.

To enter unemployment compensation

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Under Unemployment
On Unemployment and Paid Family Leave, click the start or update button

It depends. If you received a 1099-G for unemployment you can use the steps in the link below.

A control number is not needed unless you want to import. If you type your W-2 yourself, it will not be needed and you can proceed.
