If you are filing a joint return, the check will be made out to both you and your spouse. You could elect direct deposit and divide the deposit between 2 bank accounts.
What if the check already came but was addressed to both of us and the bank wouldn’t let us deposit it because it had both names and don’t have a joint checking account?
That is a discussion you have to have with the bank itself. See what they suggest. The IRS is not going to change the way the check is made out.

That makes sense, thank you.
We were able to deposit the check, but the back was not signed by my husband so the deposit did not go through. Can I request a new check?
