I am elect last yr small project for the company, 1099 misc for $1700, I paid $500 to help spent $400 materials. $500 from return.How do I enter this on my tax return?

You can enter your self-employment income and your related expenses on a business Schedule C. To do this in TurboTax, see the instructions below. The $1700 will be reported as income and you can enter the other payments (materials, labor, etc.) as business expenses. The net amount will be transferred to your 1040.
In order to enter the expenses will be prompted to upgrade to TurboTax Self-Employed. This is the only online version that you can use to report business expenses. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302122
