I am being charged $54.99 to file a simple federal return and I can't get TurboTax to give me other options.

I would rather file on paper. Between Federal and State, you are charging me more than a CPA would - almost $100!!!

If you have a very simple return, don't need to itemize your deductions (Schedule A), and are just filing a federal return (not state), you should be able to use our Federal Free Edition product. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp

If you've already upgraded to Deluxe, you should be able to 'clear and start over' and choose our Federal Free Edition product.

Keep in mind that will clear your data so you'll have to re-enter everything, and if you need the more complex forms you'll have to upgrade anyhow.

If your total income is $33,000 or less, you can use another free product called the Freedom Edition. Here is a link to switch to it: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2026912-how-do-i-switch-to-turbotax-freedom-edition
