Did you claim a deduction for the expenses on your federal income tax return? If you did, you won't qualify for the deduction on your Virginia return.
I claimed $300 on my federal tax return, but the Virginia educator eligibility guidelines state that those that are eligible can claim up to $500. Shouldn't I be able to claim up to $200 of expenses for the year to reach the $500 max for the state refund?
You should enter the total amount $500 on your federal return. You will get the $300 on your federal and $200 on the state.
