I am a small landlord and don't need 1099-MISC. Do I answer TurboTax interview: [YES] I paid 4 work that req form 1099 and [NO] I did not pay 4 work that req 1099?
I am a small landlord and don't need to issue 1099-MISC. I am curious how to answer this on the tax return interview from TurboTax.
Options are YES or NO
--- I paid for work that require from 1099-MIC
--- I did not pay for work that require from 1099-MIC
Then,
---I did issue form 1099-MIC
---I did not issue form 1099-MIC
I am confused, because I am not "required" to issue the forms, although the work may need one under different conditions, as in business.
So, should I click I am not required on part A, then?
Thanks,

The questions relate to business activity from 2017. View the question as asking: In 2017 did you pay for any work that required a 1099-MISC form to be issued (meaning the amount paid was above the required filing guidelines, etc)? If you were not required to issue any 1099 forms for work done in 2017, then just answer NO, that you did not pay for any work that required 1099-MISC forms.
The questions are to help small business owners to remember, as well to as help prepare and file any 1099-MISC forms it may be required to file.
