I am a dependent and I do not pay health insurance. Why am I being asked to add health insurance information onto my Massachusetts return?

The Massachusetts health care reform law requires most residents 18 and over with access to affordable health insurance to obtain it.

If you are covered under a parent's insurance, enter the information for their health insurance.

If they do not expect to receive a 1099-HC (and don't have government-subsidized insurance, such as Medicare, MassHealth, or Tricare), complete the Massachusetts Health Insurance interview as follows:
Enter the insurance company name and the subscriber number, but leave the federal identification number blank. Check the box "I didn't receive a 1099-HC from this insurance company". You may see an error during the state review, which you can ignore.
