Husband died on Jan.11, 2017, how do I file? He had no income but for some reason the Federal wants a 1040 form.

I'm sorry for your loss.

If you have been filing jointly with him as the primary taxpayer, fill out your forms as you normally would but on the first page of Personal Info, indicate that he is deceased. Even though he had no income, you could file jointly and be entitled to the benefits available to you with that filing status.
