HSA MSA 8889-T form

When asked if I have an HSA or MSA I respond with NO. However, the program proceeds to ask me to input my HSA/MSA information and creates an 8889-T form which is NOT needed. If I do proceed the information would be false.  If I delete this form will it be lost for good or will it just delete the information? Using 2024 Home and Biz, Windows.

You can delete the form if you do not have an HSA/MSA account.  Per the IRS, "you file form 8889 to:

  • Report health savings account (HSA) contributions (including those made on your behalf and employer contributions).
  • Figure your HSA deduction.
  • Report distributions from HSAs.
  • Figure amounts you must include in income and additional tax you may owe if you fail to be an eligible individual."

If none of these situations apply to your situation and your return shows form 8889, you can delete that form.
