How would a number of 39708 on line 4a show up on line 4b as 3908?

The more I look at it, the more I think line 4b was manually entered as it is missing the 7.  It should have been 39708.  I guess I thought Turbo Tax just automatically transferred data and there is no need to manually enter in numbers.

Was the 39708 in 1099R box 2a?  You might have typed box 2a wrong.

there are many forms with 4a and 4b so which are you asking about?

It was the 1040 form.

Have you filed it yet?  If you haven't filed yet, delete the 1099R and re enter it manually.  That should clear it out.
