How will the stimulus checks work if you didn’t get a refund last year? We owed and paid instead?

You can check the status of your stimulus check. Click on Get My Payment.  This application will give you information about:

  • Your payment status
  • Your payment type
  • Whether we need more information from you, including bank account information.

Per IRS:

The account information used to make an electronic payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of your payment.

If the IRS does not have bank account information for you and your payment has not been processed yet, Get My Payment will allow you to submit your bank account information once you have properly verified your identity so that you can get your EIP via direct deposit.

Otherwise, we will mail your payment to address we have on file for you.

The IRS application is new, and is still being updated.  Please check back again tomorrow.  It is the only way to check on the status of your refund and, when your status is available, to provide your payment information.

Thanks! More information has been coming to light that folks that used Turbo Tax or other such places are having challenges getting their Stimulus for some reason

To get the stimulus check (if you qualify for it) the only requirement is that you have ***FILED*** a tax return for 2019. It does not matter if you owed the IRS and paid, or got a refund. If you ***FIILED*** a 2019 tax return, then you don't need to do anything else.

If you elected to have your refund deposited to a bank account or card ***OR*** if you elected to pay your taxes from a bank account via ACH authorization, then that is the bank account the IRS will deposit your stimulus check to *IF* *YOU* *QUALIFY* for a stimulus check.

I do not know how it works if you paid with a credit card or debit card.

For those that paid their taxes by mail or elected to receive their refund as a paper check in the mail, then you will receive your stimulus check the same way - as a paper check in the mail.
