"rewards"  are not usually taxable ... they are like  rebates where you get store credit to buy more merchandise.

"Rewards"  are not reportable income. As Critter#2 says they are like rebates or a  store credit.  They are nothing more than a price discount or sale price. You could also compare it to using a coupon.
