I use TurboTax Premier desktop and need to efile extension form 4868 with a payment of estimated taxes. The software only provides a form to be printed and mailed.
What am I missing?

Desktop does not give you an e-file option for an extension. You do that online.

An extension does not give you extra time to pay your estimated tax due—-which must be paid by April 15, 2026. An extension gives you extra time to prepare your tax return. You have until October 15 to e-file it.
This will extend the time you have to file your taxes until October 15th, 2026.
Also, you may have to file your state taxes:
Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes. If you have an indication that you will owe taxes, you should make the payment by the original due date of the tax return to avoid additional interest and penalties.

Thank you, I submitted via the online version, I was afraid it was asking me to pay for Turbotax (again), but it processed under the free version.
I believe the federal extension (4868) automatically sends an extension to the state? I live in North Carolina.
Similar to federal, I need to make an estimated tax payment by April 15th, but do I need to figure out how to submit the State Extension online?
