Already posted. Getting error message for asset that I put in use couple years ago. Message is that my asset is not qualify for special depreciation. (Went back to Turbo Tax of 2023 and checked and Turbo Tax clearly state that because of stimulus package my asset is qualify for special depreciation). TurboTax 2024 imported information for asset from Turbo Tax 2023 and did not report any error. Turbo Tax 2025 imported asset information from Turbo tax 2024 and reported error. Talk to Turbo Tax by phone and lady suggest deleting federal asset form. Then you delete asset that you did not sell or dispose. I think software that testing for errors need update.
Clarification. You took special depreciation in 2023? Did you fully depreciate it in 2023? Can you be more specific about the type of depreciation you took in 2023, what you took in 2024 and what you are trying to take in 2025? Also what type of asset?
Yes, I took special deprecation in 2018 . It fully depreciated in2018.TurboTax 2025 business imported information about my assets from my 2024 TurboTax return. And TurboTax 2025 created federal tax form for my assets. I did not do anything. I did not claim special depreciation in 2025. Turbo Tax 2025 software testing eligibility for special depreciation for assets that was on asset list from previous years. (federal stimulus expired in January 2025 ). It is error in software that create federal assets form for 2025.Reporting errors that my assets from previous years are not eligible for special depreciation. Please fix that error that I can file my return.
The work on this section of TurboTax is continuing and expected to be completed with an update coming after Thursday night. The best time to check for a change will be Friday.
