How to file state for free as advertised?

The free edition will only work for those with very simple tax situations. If you begin with the free, and the program determines that it will not work for you, you are automatically upgraded to the deluxe. If you feel you may have selected the deluxe in error, you can clear your return and start over as long as you have not yet paid. See below for more information.
