How to file late taxes
You can still file your 2016 tax return after the filing deadline. You will be able to e-file up to October 15, 2017. If you are getting a refund, it will be OK to file past the deadline; you will not be penalized. However, if you owe tax due, get your return filed ASAP, as penalties have begun to accrue.

How to file late taxes
It’s past October... can I still file my taxes? I’m supposed to get $35 dollars returned. I don’t care about the $35, but I don’t want to get in trouble with the IRS.. I just found out why my e File was rejected. It was because of my PIN.. I didn’t see the error message before. Any advise on what to do?

At this point entering your 2015 AGI does not matter, since you can no longer e-file your 2016 return. You now have to print, sign and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.
